Course Description
This course focuses on planning and financial decision making for non-profit and mission-minded organizations. Students will learn about financial management by examining case studies, developing spreadsheet templates, and analyzing various financial information. Specific topics that will be examined include preparing for an audit, budgeting, banking and the impact of the time value of money. This course will provide students with the tools they need as future leaders in non-profit and mission-minded organizations.
Course Outcomes
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Explain common financial management concepts and terminology to effectively communicate with organizational stakeholders.
- Analyze financial statements of nonprofit organizations and provide constructive feedback on their financial conditions, financial performance, and fiscal vulnerabilities.
- Identify internal controls and the importance of audits in supporting the overall financial health of an organization.
- Develop strategies and plans for banking, borrowing and investing.
- Develop budgets for monitoring cash flow in an organization to support financial stability.
